i-Open’s agriculture data analytics platform Agrilyze among recipients across British Columbia to receive Agritech Grant supporting economic recovery and the province’s food producers and agritech innovators
Abbotsford, BC – i-Open Technologies, a global geospatial technology solutions leader based in Abbotsford, BC, is a proud recipient of the Agritech Grant program, which will help support their core operating costs and ongoing initiatives as related to the launch and commercialization efforts of its flagship Agrilyze platform. As BC’s first spatial data analytics platform for precision agriculture, Agrilyze collects, tracks, and maps data enabling better efficiency and regulatory compliance. Using advanced technologies, agricultural expertise, premium geospatial data, change detection via advanced imagery analysis, and spatially enabled AI, farmers and consultants can adapt their production practices to reduce their impact on natural ecosystems while optimizing inputs to boost yields.
The Agritech Grant program is part of StrongerBC: BC’s Economic Recovery Plan. The plan focuses on recovery that is innovative, sustainable and inclusive. It outlines the latest steps the Government of British Columbia is taking to help people, businesses, and communities come out of COVID-19 stronger without leaving people behind.
“Supporting our province’s food producers and agritech innovators is part of building a strong economic recovery for everyone,” said Premier John Horgan. “We’re acting on the valued work and recommendations of our Food Security Task Force. By launching these programs now, our province will reap the benefits of access to homegrown, safe, nutritious and affordable food for generations of British Columbians to come.”
Premier Horgan appointed the task force in July 2019 to provide strategic advice and recommendations brought forward in a 2020 Food Security Task Force report. The report outlined how technology and innovation can be developed to strengthen BC’s agriculture sector and food security.
The Agritech Grant will provide i-Open Technologies with the opportunity to help Agrilyze scale-up processes, expand and develop new technologies to increase sustainable and regenerative food production in BC, allowing operations, regardless of size, to ‘do more with less’. The grant will also help the organization continue collaborations with local farmers, educational institutes and other key industry players.
Jonathon McIntyre, Sr. VP, Agrilyze Division, recipient of the Agritech Grant, comments, “In partnership with other organizations and local farmers, we are working to make technology available in an affordable and usable way. Through our platform, farmers can collect foundational data for ongoing analysis and decision-making to leverage multiple datasets that were often previously independent. We want to work with the farmers to leverage their investments and integrate data that otherwise resides in isolation to gain synergy from aggregating it.”
